`Even after all this time the girl is still naive! He thought to himself as he mustered her face. He knew that in a way it was his own fault as he explained from a very young age that they were merely pawns in a fight for the good cause. However, in a way he would have thought she would have learned more by now.

“There is no real difference between good and evil in the way you expect Kaithleia.” He finally said truthfully as he blew a thick cloud of smoke from his lungs. “Not in the way you expect it at least.” He said as he grabbed her shoulder and forcefully turned her around so she would look directly in his eyes. “There is no such thing as good actions or bad actions. Even the ultimate hero will still kill his opponent on the battlefield. Whether it is an innocent farmer pressed into the army of evil or perhaps when he is fighting an Orcling.” He lectured casually, but for him there was an undertone of seriousness that he almost never displayed.

“That also goes the other way around. Even the forces of evil will try to save their own when in danger.” He said as he drew another heave breath from his cigarette, feeling how the contents of it was calming him down immediately. “What I am trying to say Kaithleia is that evil or good cannot be judged on their actions. Whether we kill or save, those are just things that need to be done. That does not make us evil or good.” He said, carefully studying her face.

Though he knew it was already clear she understood the concept. She had always been fast upon the uptake.

“So what you are saying is that not our actions, but our intentions make us good or evil master Cana?” She asked carefully as she contemplated the implications of his words.

`Such an incredible woman.´ Cana thought to himself as he was barely able to constrain from laughing out loud. Instead he decided it was better to let her come to the conclusion on her own, so he just watched her silently.

“Then if our cause is the right one and our actions are essentially good, then why do I still feel bad about killing the unarmed and innocent?” She asked carefully as she looked at Cana for an answer.

This was one question he knew he could never answer from his own experience, as he never felt any remorse when fighting or killing. So instead he answered it with a lesson an old friend had thought him.

“Because life is sacred, Kaithleia, and it should never be taken without feelings. It is because you are a such a good person at heart that you actually feel anything while killing.” He said with a warm smile as he touched her shoulder, before walking past her. “If I were you I would treasure that feeling carefully Kaithleia. For if you lose that feeling, you are losing that which makes you good.” He continued as he made his way to the gates to the Institute, leaving her standing were she was, contemplating his words.
